After a commitment-filled Tuesday morning for recruiting for James Franklin, the momentum continued Tuesday night as four-star DE Tyson Harley flipped his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-4 defensive end is the fourth commitment on Tuesday, joining four-star WR Davion Brown, three-star IOL Benjamin Eziuka, and three-star DL T-Ron Richardson. Harley is also the 13th new commit under James Franklin and the ninth who was committed to Penn State at one point.
Here is the list of the new recruits so far for Virginia Tech under James Franklin.
- 4* QB Troy Huhn
- 4* RB Messiah Mickens
- 4* WR Davion Brown
- 4* TE Pierce Petersohn
- 4* OT Thomas Wilder
- 4* ED Tyson Harley
- 3* OT Roseby Lubintus
- 3* OT Marlen Bright
- 3* OT Maddox Cochrane
- 3* IOL Benjamin Eziuka
- 3* DE Tyson Harley
- 3* DL Garrett Witherington
- 3* DL T-Ron Richardson
- 3* LB Mathieu Lamah
Harley is now the eighth new commitment in the trenches, including the third on the defensive line. This is in line with how James Franklin made clear that for him, building on the offensive and defensive lines is a priority as he shared in his introductory press conference.
With Harley on board, the Hokies will now focus more heavily on trying to flip another Penn State four-star DE commit in Jackson Ford, who also visited Blacksburg last weekend after previously saying he was locked in with the Nittany Lions. Ford is one of a few names to monitor on Early Signing Day along with four-star LB Terry Wiggins, four-star S Matt Sieg, and three-star CB Amauri Polydor; all of whom are also current Penn State commits.
