There may not be a position group with more turnover this offseason than Virginia Tech’s offensive line. The dismissal of Ron Crook and replacement with WVU’s Matt Moore may be the biggest headline long term, but the overhaul goes beyond the coaching.
Tech saw four of their five starters depart with Kaden Moore and Parker Clements running out of eligibility, and Xavier Chaplin (Auburn) and Braelin Moore (LSU) both transferring elsewhere. Additionally, the only returning starter in Bob Schick has a good chance of not making the starting lineup next season given the promise that younger guys like Brody Meadows and Layth Ghannam have shown, along with the addition of veteran All-Big 12 guard Tomas Rimac (though there have been rumors of a move to left tackle for him).
That leaves the Hokies with an extremely young room where outside of the offseason addition and two-time All-Big 12 Rimac and the veteran Schick, only Layth Ghannam has made a start in a non-bowl game.
That lack of experience does leave the Hokies with a major question mark on the offensive line. However, Moore is excited to get to work with this young group and feels their youth and hunger will help make things easier for him as he takes over the offensive line room.
