The craziest transfer portal cycle to date in college football history is likely upon us with Virginia Tech set to be active just like most teams in America are.
On this page, we'll keep track of all the transfer portal news and notes as things develop from players transferring in and out to all of our transfer portal stories to our numbers tracker, reported offers and more. We'll also include a list of guys who have an extra COVID year of eligibility and have updates at our hub here on their status for 2023.

- 92 Scholarship Players for 2023 (7 over the limit)
As you can see, Virginia Tech is currently 5 over and that doesn't include the fact that the Hokies will likely end up signing around 23-25 HS players this cycle. That means that you'll need about 10-12 transfers out to fit the HS class with every additional transfer out creating a portal spot. Our current numbers assume every scholarship player with an extra year is returning but that is obviously subject to change.
Note that these numbers do include the scholarship of former walk-on and current starting punter Peter Moore. There could be 1 or 2 other walk-ons who are on scholarship but that is the number at this time. Those numbers do not include 2022 DT signee Malachi Madison who is not taking up a scholarship spot currently due to some other options he had for his VT career related to past GI bills.
Currently, I wouldn't be surprised to see 15-20 transfers out which I could envision being slightly above if not right at the national average. That would put Tech in line for 5-10 transfer portal additions which may seem low, but is a reminder that the roster transformation will take another cycle after this one.
